Why Baking Soda is Good for Stomach Gas

According to Healthline, it is estimated that roughly 60 percent of all adults will deal with some type of acid reflux symptoms (like gas, heartburn, and other digestive issues) during a one-year timeframe. And approximately 20 to 30 percent experience symptoms on a weekly basis, making treating this particular condition imperative to the health and wellness of a large majority of the population. Fortunately, baking soda is an inexpensive, quick-acting treatment option.

Stomach gas is created by acids released by your tummy that upset your digestive tract. The sodium bicarbonate in baking soda neutralizes these acids, providing you almost instant relief. It is kind of like using a fire extinguisher to squelch a fire on your stove except, in this case, the burning and discomfort is in your belly.

To create a baking soda concoction that will work to reduce your gas, and its subsequent pain, just mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a glass of water. This should help you feel better in minimal time.

While this is a quick and effective remedy for dealing with stomach gas, you’ll want to consider using an alternative method if you are on a low-sodium diet or have high blood pressure. Because baking soda is sodium bicarbonate (a form of salt), using this particular remedy should be avoided for you unless you explicitly get permission from your doctor or treating physician.

Also, if you find that you are constantly consuming this baking soda mixture, then you might want to schedule a doctor’s visit anyway to talk about your frequent gas problems. More testing may be needed to rule out other serious health issues that may be beginning to formulate, making stopping them a priority.
