When it comes to foot pain, plantar fasciitis is the most common, accounting for 11-15 percent of all cases treated annually. Sometimes the pain can become intense enough to send you in search of relief and, fortunately, one treatment option exists that can ease your discomfort while potentially keeping you out of the doctor’s office. It is called physio taping.
Physio taping, also commonly referred to as kinesio taping, involves using a type of specialized body tape which serves to support your muscles and improve circulation to the injured area. This particular remedy is used often by elite athletes so, if you’ve ever watched a pro sports game on the TV or in person, you’ve likely noticed brightly colored tape somewhere on the athletes’ bodies, highlighting just how much this particular remedy can help.
Additionally, many different research studies have confirmed the benefits of taping. For instance, in one study published in the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, researchers looked at a number of different pieces of research involving physio taping for this kind of foot pain and, after reviewing their findings, they concluded that “in the short-term, taping is beneficial in treating plantar fasciitis.”
So if you have pain your foot due to this condition, you should try using physio tape to reduce your discomfort and improve healing. You do this by placing three pieces of tape along the underside, inside, and outside of your foot to give it more support and improve blood flow. Remember too that it also helps to take weight off your foot as often as possible, stretch your calf, and use ice to help speed up the process. Foam rollers can typically provide some relief as well.
