When it comes to getting and staying in shape, there are a lot of tools at your disposal. You have treadmills, the elliptical, hand weights, and resistance bands. But what if the most powerful tools aren’t necessarily exercise equipment?
The reality is that reaching a goal takes more than having cardio or strength training equipment on hand. In fact, here are three of the most powerful tools when it comes to realizing your health and fitness success:
#1: Creating a Visual Goal
The more you can “see” your success, the easier it will be for you to attain. You can create a visual goal by having a progress chart that shows the weight you are losing or the muscle you are gaining, encouraging you to keep with the up or downward trend. You may also want to make a Goal Jar, by which you add a colored stone to it every time you lose a pound of fat or gain a pound of muscle, motivating you to keep filling it.
#2: Having Patience
While it is understandable that you want to reach your goal as quickly as you can, that isn’t likely to happen. And if it does, it is probably by unhealthy means that won’t stick anyway. Getting in shape requires a ton of patience because good health takes time. Rest assured, it will be worth it as long as you stay the course.
#3: Developing a Plan
You can’t get where you are going if you don’t know how to get there, which is where a plan can come in real handy. Develop the steps necessary to reach your goals and lay out how you are going to implement them. This will keep you moving forward, ultimately ending up exactly where you want to be.
What are your thoughts about visual goals, patience with the process, and having a plan? What has worked for you?
