When it comes to fitness training, there are a number of different methods that can strengthen and tone your body. One of these is called supersets and it involves performing two exercises consecutively with no rest in between them, ideally training two opposing muscles groups. For example, you may do your squats to work on your thighs and then, immediately upon finishing, move to lunges to strengthen your hamstrings, resting for a minute or two only after those two movements are complete.
What makes this particular method of working out so beneficial? Here are some advantages it offers that some other techniques don’t necessarily provide:
- Superset training increases your fat burn potential. Work your body with no rest in between two consecutive sets of exercises and it will produce more lactic acid which increases your growth hormone secretions. These hormones improve your fat burning potential both during and after the exercise session, making it easier to lose weight and firm up your body.
- It also promotes faster muscle growth. Using superset training promotes faster muscle growth by working your muscles harder and more intensely than a lot of other forms of exercise. Therefore, you will notice greater muscle gains when following this type of routine, helping you develop a stronger physique at a quicker rate.
- This type of training reduces the time you spend in the gym. Because you aren’t resting your body in between every type of exercise, you will get into and out of the gym faster. This means that you will have more time to engage in other activities you enjoy, like spending time with family and friends.
Using lower weights when you are performing superset training is advised since you’re not giving your muscles any time to recover in between movements. Also, be sure to use proper form so you receive the full benefit each exercise has to offer without risking injury.
