How to Stay Away from Fat

While some types of fat are good for your health in reasonable amounts (like olive oil and the fat contained within nuts, avocados, and olives), the reality is that most of the fats we consume are not the best for us. This is especially true when it comes to saturated and trans fats as they are the worst for our bodies.

That’s why it is best to stay away from this specific macronutrient as much as possible, and here’s how to do it:

  • Don’t buy snacks. Processed and pre-packaged snacks usually contain a higher amount of fat than all-natural options, making it easier to avoid them if you never bring them in the house to begin with. Instead, focus on purchasing items that allow you to make meals that fill you up and don’t leave you hungry in between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if you do feel your tummy rumble and it isn’t yet time to eat, at least choose healthier options such as fruits and veggies.

  • Drink more water. When you’re thirsty, you may find yourself reaching for fatty foods since your body can have a hard time differentiating between thirst and hunger cues. Therefore, staying hydrated makes it easier to stay away from fat, so keep water by you all day long and sip on it often, drinking additional amounts with your main meals.

  • Avoid meal combos. The more ingredients you put into a particular meal, the higher its fat content will likely be as you start adding together all of the grams contained within each specific food. This means that sometimes simpler is better as meals with fewer ingredients also tend to be lower in fat. To keep your taste buds from getting bored, incorporate spices to add more flavor without increasing the calorie intake.
