Sauerkraut is a german recipe for fermented white cabbage, translated into English means 'Sour cabbage'.

Sauerkraut has many benefits for our health. Firstly it's great for digestion problems as sauerkraut has a high source for good bacteria's, these bacteria's help digestion and clean our stomachs when eaten. Also less energy is used during breaking down these food nutrients, which helps reduce your energy usage .

White cabbage is amazing and can help you combat many diseases.

White cabbage is a great proactive nutrient provider rich in vitamin C, vitamin E and sulphur. When eaten raw it’s an awesome body cleansing food source, it helps by cleaning the internal organs like stomach and upper bowel’s. Cabbage is known as the killer of colon cancer and simulates our immune system, helps with stomach ulcers , kills harmful bacteria and can help your blood circulation. 

 

You can find different types of sauerkraut normally they are packed in 500g bags. Supermarkets like Aldi or Lidl  stock sauerkraut at a good price roughly around 59p for 250g, other supermarkets stock the fermented cabbage but normally the priced a little higher.

 

When cooking normally is good to use a simple old German recipe. Just add a few cumin seeds and salt and pepper then cook for just a couple of minutes in a sauce pan and serve hot.
