Why You Should Have Fat In Your Diet (Good Fat, That Is)

When most people set out to lose weight and get healthy, one of the very first things that they eliminate is fat. While this is certainly understandable given the negative press this particular substance has received over the last several years, not all fats are created equal. In fact, some should definitely be included in your diet if your goal is total health and wellness.

The Reasons Why Fat Is Beneficial to You

There are a number of benefits to having certain kinds of fat in your daily menu plan. For instance, some are good for your heart and actually help lower the amount of plaque and cholesterol in your veins. Fat is also responsible for helping your body utilize certain vitamins, such as A, D, E, and K (which is why they are called fat soluble).

Additionally, fat helps keep your skin radiant and healthy and promotes good eyesight and brain function. It works with your immune system to fight against disease and it also keeps you fuller longer, making it easier to watch what you eat both between meals and at meal time because you aren’t absolutely ravenous.

The Key is Choosing Good Fats

But, as I stated earlier, not all fats are created equal. In other words, some are better than others for you, and these are the ones that I am referencing. So, don’t think you can eat potato chips and ice cream and say it’s for your health, because those particular fats aren’t the ones you want more of.

Good fats include foods such as salmon, olives, avocados, and olive oil. The fat in nuts is also advantageous for your body, as is the type of fat that is in corn, flaxseed, and soybeans. These options offer more positives than negatives, making them a welcome part of a balanced eating program.

Add foods like these to your diet and you’ll be giving your body a good kind of fat that will enhance your health instead of hurting it!
