How the Paleo Diet Works and Whether It Is Right for You

If you’re looking to lose weight and gain energy, you’ve likely heard of one of the latest diet crazes that does both – the Paleo Diet. But you may be wondering how it works and whether or not it is the right diet for you. So, here is the basic information you need to help you make that determination.

What the Paleo Diet Is

The Paleo Diet is a program that involves eating foods that are in their natural state. Basically, it promotes the consumption of lean proteins (red meats, chicken, turkey, fish, etc.), fruits, and veggies; the same types of foods that they ate back in the Paleolithic Era.
You will be removing all of the processed foods from your diet, which will not only help you lose weight, but it also increases your health because you’re not ingesting a bunch of foreign substances that your body has to figure out how to digest. Substances that do you more harm than good.

How Does It Compare to Other Diets?

If you look at the foods that the Paleo Diet prompts you to eat, you will notice that overall it is slightly higher in fat and protein than other diets, and lower in carbohydrates. It also decreases your salt intake while increasing the amount of fiber you consume.

Is it for you?

One thing to consider before going on the Paleo Diet is how willing and able you are to eat fewer processed foods. If you’re the type of person who cannot go without boxed, canned or frozen meals, this probably isn’t the best weight loss option for you.
Also, you need to be willing to remove bread from your plate (which is huge for some people) and be okay with increasing your meat consumption. Obviously, vegetarians would struggle with this, making this diet not the best option if this is your preference.

Now that you know the basics, you can make your own decision whether the Paleo Diet would work for you or not. If it does, great. If it doesn’t, there are plenty of other options to consider so you just have to keep looking.
