10 Best New Year’s Weight Loss Resolutions

If your goal for the next year is to lose weight, you may get further ahead by resolving to change certain behaviors that will help you meet the goal versus making the weight loss itself your resolution. After all, the behaviors themselves are what make or break your ability to lose weight, so changing them will get you to your goal – possibly even more quickly as you’ll have some very specific plans of action to take.

With that thought in mind, here are 10 best New Year’s resolutions that will help lead you to weight loss success:

1: Drinking more water – Consume half of your weight in ounces daily (for example, a 180 pound person would need 90 ounces of water a day) and you’ll eat less and feel thinner.

2: Getting more active – Move your body for 30 minutes a day and you will easily and quickly lose more weight than if you focus on diet alone.

3: Eating out less often – You can’t control how much fat and calories are added to foods when you don’t make them yourself so you can lower your fat and calorie intake simply by eating out less often.

4: Eating more veggies - Not only are vegetables low in fat and high in vitamins, they also supply a good amount of fiber to keep your digestive system running efficiently.

5: Consuming more protein – If you don’t eat enough protein, you will struggle more with cravings and hunger. You can get enough of this key food group by upping your intake of meat, cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts and beans.

6: Adding weight lifting to your exercise regimen – Don’t just focus on cardio as you will miss out on a number of health benefits if you don’t lift weights. The more muscle mass you have the more calories you burn, even while at rest!

7: Taking a daily multivitamin – Although you should get the bulk of your vitamins and minerals from the food you eat, taking a supplement ensures that you’ll keep your body (and your metabolism) at its peak condition.

8: Staying positive – Your attitude is a huge factor as to whether or not you will succeed, so stay positive and focus on the healthy results you’re enjoying versus the struggles that you are enduring and you’ll have better chances of meeting your goal.

9: Changing your self-talk – Tell yourself that you can’t achieve your goal and you won’t; and tell yourself that you will try and you’re just giving yourself an out. On the contrary, if you tell yourself that you can and you will lose weight, success will be your only option.

10: Helping a friend get healthy – Sometimes you get the most when you actually strive to give. So, if your New Year’s resolution is to help a loved one get healthier and lose weight, you’ll likely do the same yourself.

Make one of these your resolutions (or do all ten) and you’ll enjoy weight loss once and for all.
