Cod Liver Oil for Health

Have you heard of cod liver oil (also known as fish liver oil) and wonder if it is something that you should be taking? Are you looking for ways to maximize your health and would like to know if this one simple supplement would help you do just that?

Cod liver oil is an Omega 3 fatty acid that is used both as a preventative and a treatment option for several different health conditions.

These include:

Arthritis. Because cod liver oil is anti-inflammatory, that makes it a perfect substance to reduce the swelling normally associated with arthritis related conditions. It reduces the pain that many arthritic subjects have to endure and makes life more livable.

High Cholesterol. If you suffer from high cholesterol or have an increased risk of heart disease, cod oil may help with these types of issues. It lowers your “bad” cholesterol and raises your “good”. The result is easy blood flow and veins that are clear of any buildup.

Alzheimer’s. Numerous studies have shown that regular doses of cod liver oil reduces the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and other related mental conditions. It does this by improving the function of the brain.
Type I Diabetes. Cod liver oil also lowers the risk of type I diabetes in children and pregnant women.
How much do you need? The best way to get cod liver oil is through eating foods that contain it, such as salmon and tuna, at least twice weekly. However, you can also take supplements or 1-2 teaspoons of oil per day.
It is always recommended that you consult your physician first to make sure that it doesn’t interfere with other medications or supplements that you’re already taking. Also, because it reduces your blood’s ability to clot, if you take too much you risk bleeding issues.
If your doctor gives you approval to take it, start slow and combine it with meals to reduce any possible side effects such as nausea, gas and rashes. Working your way up to a full dose is the better way to go.
