The main objective for most sports drinks are to top up our glycogen stores, glycogen helps us produce and supply energy for use in our muscles.
Energy drinks are ideal if your workout consists of an hour or more of continuous exercise and if you are looking for better performance on cardio vascular workouts.
If you are working out for less than an hour I suggest you drink water instead as the extra energy should not be required for any workout less than 30 minutes.
Also if you are targeting weight loss energy drinks should be avoided and replaced buy water as most energy drinks contain high calories that aren’t needed.
If you require the extra calories make your own isotonic drink its easy, all you need is
- 300 ml water
- 300ml orange juice
- 2 tsp Glucose
- 1 pinch salt
- Place together and shake
