What is protein

Protein is made from a mixture of Amino acids that are the molecules that are join together to complete protein.

In total there are twenty different amino acids, eight of which cannot be manufactured in the body and must be obtained through diet, these are known as Essential Amino acids.

The body needs all essential amino acids to make a complete protein, these acids can be obtained through the following food products;

  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Meats
  • Dairy (milks & cheese)
  • Soy beans

An incomplete essential amino acid cannot join to form a complete protein, this is because these proteins have missing amino acids. The foods labelled below are incomplete proteins;

  • Cereals
  • Legumes
  • Maize
  • Nuts
  • Whole Grains

By Combining two of these incomplete proteins together they can compensate for each other making a complete essential Amino acid & full protein.

Excessive protein consumption with not lead to muscular growth, it can damage kidney’s and lead to dangerous toxic ammonia levels in blood.
