Healthy Simple Dessert Options

If you’re trying to whittle your waistline or lose those last ten pounds, then you likely feel that you have to bypass dessert to reach your goals. So, you sit and watch others enjoy their delectable treats, all while you crunch angrily on your carrot sticks wondering if it is worth the turmoil.

Luckily, you can “have your cake and eat it too”, so to speak. In other words, you don’t have to swear off desserts to get where you want to be. All you have to do is pick some healthy after your meal options and you’ll have the best of both worlds.

Here are a few to consider:

  • Fruit cocktail with cream whip. Nothing says summer like a bowl of colorful, fresh water-filled grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe and a variety of berries. Top it off with a dollop of low calorie whip cream and you’ve got a dessert that is sweet as pie, without the extra calories.
  • Faux apple pie. Speaking of pie, if the thought of warm apple pie makes your mouth water, you can make your own in a way that is a lot healthier and better for your body. Simply slice an apple and sprinkle it with cinnamon and artificial sweetener. Put it in the microwave for 20-40 seconds, until the apple is tender and steaming. Serve it with a half cup of Greek yogurt for a protein infused a la mode remake.
  • Strawberry shortcake. Swap biscuits for angel food cake and use limited sugar in your strawberries and you’ll have a light and airy dessert that will make your mouth sing.
  • Berry parfait. Layer Greek yogurt with your choice of berries (blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries work great) and then top with a little bit of crunched up granola for a treat that provides a few different textures, minimal calories, and one heck of a taste!

Try these ideas or come up with some of your own. You don’t have to banish dessert to get where you want to be. You just have to use it wisely and these four suggestions are just a start!
