If you’re thinking of setting up your own home gym, then making sure you have the right equipment is a necessity. After all, if you’re going through the trouble of coming up with a space in your house dedicated to getting fit and trim, you want to make sure that it does what it is supposed to, right?
With that thought in mind, here are some equipment recommendations that you can use in most any home gym, no matter how big or small:
Resistance bands.
The great thing about resistance bands are that they don’t take up a lot of room and you can use them anywhere. They’re also inexpensive so you can get in a great resistance workout without having to buy hundreds (or thousands) of dollars in equipment.
Hand weights.
Another way to build your muscles at home is to use hand weights. If you cannot afford to go buy new ones, simply use items you have around your house. For example, water bottles can be used in place of 1 pound weights and you can fill empty paint cans with rocks to make your own hand weights that work for exercises like bicep curls.
Jump rope
As long as you have ceilings that are high enough and a decent amount of space, skipping rope may be an option. It increases your cardiovascular health and may even bring back wonderful memories from your childhood.
Step
Another cardio alternative that doesn’t involve expensive equipment is the step. It takes up minimal space and you can do a number of things on it not only to boost your heart rate, but it can also be incorporated into your strength training routine. If you have stairs, you can just use them too.
Yoga mat
Any balanced fitness routine includes stretching and flexibility exercises so you’re going to want a mat to do them on. They’re easy to store as you can just roll them up and stick them in a corner when you’re not using them.
You can create a home gym with little money and not very much space by using ideas like these. There really is no excuse for not getting fit, so don’t let yourself make one.
