Best time to drink ACV for weight loss?  - Fitness Health

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is consumed by people for various health reasons. One is that it’s believed to potentially help you lose weight. While ACV won’t cure diabetes or eliminate your need for healthy amounts of exercise and diet in your life, it can make a difference.

It works like this. Drinking ACV can help lower your blood glucose levels after a meal. A study published in the Journal of the American Association of Diabetes back in 2004 found that participants who drank 20 grams of ACV after eating had significantly lower blood glucose levels up to 60 minutes later. ACV has also been found to lower your insulin levels. These two factors combined are thought to help suppress your feelings of hunger, resulting in a lower appetite and weight loss.

It’s been proven by science. A clinical trial done in April 2018 found that people who drank 2 tablespoons of ACV after eating lunch and dinner lost an average of 8.8 lbs over a three-month period, compared with those who didn’t and only lost 5 lbs during the same time period. Both groups were on the same restrictive diet.

What about other health benefits? Some people even go so far as to say ACV can help your fat burn faster, and help speed up your rate of calorie burn. It sounds like a miracle substance.

But when, exactly, should you take it?

The participants in the scientific studies above took small amounts of ACV with their meals, or shortly thereafter. This could potentially help suppress any desire to overeat at meals. Others say you should have your ACV in the morning to set you up for your day. Others still say you should take ACV at night time before sleeping for the best results, as your blood sugar is naturally depressed at night while you sleep. Finally, some people believe you should always have ACV before eating and not afterwards, in order to suppress hunger before any digestion occurs.

Really, there seems to be no single ideal time to take your ACV. What feels natural for you?

Remember, always dilute ACV as it can irritate your throat, and it can also erode the enamel on your teeth due to its acidity. And be sure not to take too much. Everything in moderation.

If you have further concerns about ACV talk to a nutritionist or your doctor.
