Why HIIT Is Important for Advanced Fitness

 

HIIT, or high intensity interval training, is an exercise technique many fitness professionals have embraced with open arms. What makes this method so beneficial to some of the most elite athletes in the world? There are many reasons, actually.

It Is Time Efficient

Once you reach a certain level of fitness, you would have to work out in the gym for hours at a time to experience any more growth. Fortunately, this is not the case with HIIT. Because it is super-efficient, you get more gains in less time which means that you don’t have to spend all of your free moments exercising in an effort to get bigger or stronger.

It Improves Endurance

The key to reaching advanced levels of fitness is improving your endurance. You need to be able to withstand more or you aren’t going to achieve better results. Studies, like one at McMaster University in Canada, have found one major benefit of HIIT is that it helps your muscles use oxygen more efficiently, thereby improving your endurance as a result. 

It Works Multiple Muscle Groups

In order to enjoy advanced levels of fitness, you need to work as many muscle groups as you can, something that HIIT does extremely well. From the muscles in your upper body (think chest, shoulders, upper back, and arms) to the ones in your lower body (abs, thighs, hamstrings, and calves), HIIT uses every one of them, providing advanced fitness enthusiasts a workout that “hits” each muscle effectively.

It Is Challenging

There is no denying that HIIT is extremely challenging. It pushes your body (and your mind) to all new levels, which makes this form of exercise a must for anyone wishing to further his or her fitness levels and join some of the world’s top athletes.
