With all of the demands being placed on people nowadays, it’s no wonder that more and more people are suffering from anxiety in one shape or another. So, how do you cut the tension that you feel in your gut if you’re not interested in being prescribed drugs that alter the way you feel?
Create a physical outlet
The more you keep anxiety pent up inside, the worse it is going to get. Like a pressure cooker, you have to relieve it regularly so that you don’t explode and do damage to your health and mental status.
Of course, the best way to do this is via regular exercise. But, it has to be something you enjoy or it may just create more anxiety than what it sets out to release.
Check local gyms that offer classes that may interest you or commit to taking regular walks where you can get some fresh air while you clear your head. When you work your body, it gives your mind a much needed break.
Talk it out
Whether you have a counselor that you see weekly or just the listening ear of a well-intentioned friend, sometimes just giving your concerns a voice is enough to quiet them. It’s like once you get the words out, you can start to move in the right direction and actually deal with how you feel.
Another great listener is a clergy member if you are religious. Find a pastor, reverend or other trusted person within your church or temple that can help you when you’re feeling like life is a bit much.
Take care of yourself physically
If your diet consists of not much more than caffeine or sugar, your chances of suffering from anxiety increase tremendously. You’re not giving your body what it needs to stay healthy and that makes it difficult to deal with whatever gets thrown your way.
Focus on eating foods that are nutritious and healthy. Get adequate sleep and spend time relaxing every now and again. The more you take care of your body, the better able you are to handle the ups and downs in your world.
Anxiety can consume you if you let it. Don’t let it. You deserve better than that.
