MUSIC AND RUNNING
Most of us use music in our workouts. Now research confirms we are doing it right: both exercising and music are great for the mind, body and soul!
New scientific research has been conducted, looking into some of the effects music can have whilst we are exercising., Listening to music is a more complex endeavour than it seems. The human brain has to work hard to sort out different tones, a variety of sounds, sequencing and timing. Research from Ohio State University states that if we listen to music when we are exercising, both our brain and our overall fitness performance benefit. In fact, music enhances and fires up the brain’s frontal lobe. This is the part of the brain that is associated with higher order mental functions like abstract thinking or planning for future events.
It is very strange. If you have been on a long run, swim, walk, bike ride or skate, you will notice that as you often focus on the up and coming events, like the above planning into our future. The feeling is much like mediation, Music and fitness can often be a place where we can escape too and focus more on work, financial or family problems.
When we join these together we can expect great happenings.
