When you’re watching what you eat, the last thing you want to do is spend all of your down time in the kitchen preparing your meals. Certainly, eating healthy takes a little extra time, but sometimes you just want something quick and easy that isn’t going to widen your waistline. Something that you can prepare in the blink of an eye so that you can go about your day, or simply because you’re hungry and don’t want to wait.
Whatever it is that is driving you in search of food that is both available and accessible, here are three great low calorie meal options to consider:
- Tuna Salad. It only takes a moment to throw some lettuce, spinach, or kale on a plate and top it with tuna (canned in water it is only around 160 calories per serving). Top it with onion, pickles, salt, pepper, and maybe even a touch of vinegar and you’ll have low calorie veggies and protein in this meal, which makes it a winner for anyone who is trying to lose weight.
- Cabbage or Vegetable Soup. If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait, either heat up a can of cabbage or veggie soup or stop at a restaurant that serves it and get it as take away. Either way, you’re not going to be eating a lot of calories (only around 70 per cup), yet it will still fill you up with very little, if any, preparation.
- Spaghetti in Marinara Sauce. When you’re cooking for your family, you can’t always get away with light options like the two above, which makes spaghetti in marinara sauce a great alternative. It is quick to make as you just boil your spaghetti and mix it with the sauce, and it is less than 200 calories as long as you don’t eat more than a cup.
These are only three of countless meal options that are quick, easy, and low in calories. What is your favorite low calorie go-to meal when you don’t have a lot of time (or energy)?
