How to Fall Asleep Quickly and Naturally

night portugal

There are a number of sleep aids on the market today, but they aren’t good for your long term health. Your body can begin to rely on them to sleep and some are just downright addictive. So, what can you do to help yourself fall asleep quickly and naturally?

Keep consistent sleep hours. Get your body used to going to bed at the same time every day and you won’t have as hard a time falling asleep. This also goes for weekends, so don’t think you can disrupt your sleep patterns on Saturdays and Sundays and not feel the effects all week long.

Cut down on your caffeine intake. If you drink coffee, tea, soda or energy drinks all day long, of course you’re going to have a hard time falling asleep. Therefore, you’re best to stop drinking caffeine after the early afternoon hours. If you are extremely sensitive to the effects of caffeine, you may even want to consider stopping after noon.

Clear your mind. When you have a lot to think about, your mind may have a hard time shutting off enough to drift off to sleep. You can clear your worries and stress away by meditating for a few minutes prior to bedtime.

Darken your bedroom as much as possible. Even the display from your alarm clock can be enough to make your brain think it’s not bedtime, so be sure cut out any light you can in your bedroom. Turn your alarm clock away from you, use darkening curtains and turn off the TV.

Use a white noise machine. If you’re easily distracted by the sounds of your neighbor’s all night parties or the dog parking two yards over, you could benefit from a white noise machine that drowns out all of the other noises so you can easily drift off into a peaceful sleep.

These are just a few things that can help you fall asleep both quickly and naturally. What are some ways that you use to lull yourself into a restful slumber?
