Non-Traditional Healthy Breakfast Ideas

Are you aware of the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but aren’t really into traditional breakfast foods? Would you like some healthy ideas for this very important meal that are quick and easy but that don’t involve eggs, cereal and other breakfast related foods?

What you choose to put in your belly when you first get up in the morning has the ability to either make you ready to take on your day or leave you wanting nothing other than to go back to bed. Here are a few morning meals that will lead you toward the former, without making you eat breakfast foods that don’t exactly excite your taste buds:

  • Breakfast Trail Mix – If you are the person who isn’t real hungry in the morning and generally eats on the run, a healthy homemade trail mix makes a great first meal of the day. Combine unsalted seeds and nuts (think almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds) with dried fruits (like cranberries, apples and pineapple without added sugar) in a baggie and take it with you when you head out the door. You’ll get both proteins and carbohydrates in a way that fits into your active I-don’t-like-to-eat-in-the-morning lifestyle.

  • Cheese ‘N Fruit – When you have time to stop and eat breakfast, but only minimal time, cheese and fruit paired together give you both instant and long term energy without costing you a lot of preparation time. Choose an ounce of low-fat cheese and eat it with a side of melons or berries of your choice. Cottage cheese works well too and you can even add a dash of cinnamon for added flavor and nutritional benefits.

  • Turkey Sandwich – Who says you can’t have a sandwich for breakfast? When you start your day with whole grain and turkey (or any other lean meat), you’re giving yourself a meal that not only supplies healthy nutrients, but it will also sustain you until lunchtime. It’s a win/win situation!

Starting your day with a healthy meal doesn’t have to involve eating traditional breakfast foods. Try options like these and you can give your body the energy it needs without having to say, “Eggs? Not again!”
